2015 Native American Collegiate Lacrosse Athletes

The Iroquois Nationals are proud to announce the 2015 listing of Native American collegiate lacrosse athletes.

These athletes are currently attending colleges and universities all across the country. This initial listing identifies 33 Native athletes representing 16 different collegiate teams for the 2015 spring lacrosse season.

The 2015 lacrosse season also highlights 5 Native American Collegiate coaches representing 5 educational institutions located along the continental east coast.

The Iroquois Nationals are building a comprehensive list; inclusive and representative of all Native American Lacrosse athletes at the secondary and post-secondary levels.

Iroquois Nationals in the NLL: Cody Jamieson, Craig Point, Sid Smith – Powers Knighthawks Win

(February 21, 2015)… Cody Jamieson’s goal at 3:02 of overtime completed an incredible second-half comeback to give the Rochester Knighthawks a 13-12 win over the Buffalo Bandits 13-12. With the come-from-behind win, the Knighthawks swept the three-game season series against their Thruway rivals.

Jamieson scored the game’s final three goals, including the game winner to extended Rochester’s winning streak to six games over Buffalo, who fell to 4-5.
Jamieson finished the game with four goals and one assist as Rochester (5-3) rallied from 12-8 down in the fourth quarter to earn their third straight win.

Joe Walters and Jordan Hall assisted on the winner to each finish with five-assist efforts. Craig Point led Rochester with six points (2+4), while Cory Vitarelli posted a four-point (3-1) effort.

Iroquois Nationals Board Member Tonya Gonnella Frichner Passes

Tonya Gonnella FrichnerA citizen of the Onondaga Nation, whose Snipe Clan name was Gowanahs, Tonya Gonnella Frichner left peacefully during the first hour of February 14, 2015 surrounded by family members and friends in her New Jersey home after a valiant decade-long battle with cancer. She was 67.

Being with Gonnella Frichner at the end of her life was a beautiful experience, Betty Lyons, Gonnella Frichner’s niece, told ICTMN. “I was laying next to her and holding her hand and it helped me to help her—and that’s how she was. She always made you feel good. Even in her death there was that generosity. She passed peacefully. Her husband was the most wonderful husband—he’s like a father to me. He made sure that she had exactly what she wanted right to the end—that she got home and had the peace of being surrounded with family. It was like a gift she gave to us to be with her when she passed. It’s not about what you do in this world, it’s about who you really are.”

Haudenosaunee – A Call for Officials: Referees and Assessors for the 2015 WILC and Festival games.

The Iroquois Nationals Lacrosse is asking perspective candidates for referee and assessor officiates for the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Lacrosse Championships (WILC) 2015 held on Haudenosaunee homelands at Onondaga Nation and Buffalo, NY on September 18-26, 2015.

This call for officials is a component of the Iroquois Nationals Officials initiative to promote, train, and certify referees, assessors, and technicians for domestic and internationals programs for the Men’s, U-19, and youth programs.

Referee and Assessor letters of interest and or nomination for the WILC 2015 games are due by February 28, 2015 to Mike White – wmichaelmwhite@aol.com.

The Iroquois Nationals certification is an application process and completion of the Officials’ Package. The officials’ package includes participation in a certification clinic in mid-February or the verification of current certification. The package offers a review for the FIL Officials fitness and written assessment. To receive additional information, contact, Mike White wmichaelmwhite@aol.com.

Iroquois Nationals Name GM and Coaching Staff for 2015 Worlds

(December 23, 2014)… The Iroquois Nationals have announced their general manager and coaching staff for the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship. Landon Miller will oversee the Iroquois team as its general manager, while Rich Kilgour will serve as the head coach. Assistant coaches will include Duane Jacobs, Darris Kilgour and Andy Secore.

Miller has a history of building winning programs, especially at the professional level. As the Assistant General Manager of the Rochester Knighthawks, he is one of the franchise’s architects in building the current three-time National Lacrosse League Champions. Miller has enjoyed similar success in his role as the president of the Six Nations Arrows. During his six-year tenure, the Arrows have won a Minto Cup (2014) and have advanced to the Ontario Finals four times.

“It’s a great honor to represent the Iroquois Nationals program in this historic event, especially being hosted in our traditional territories. The program has seen growth and success at the world stage. We now want to take that last step and win Gold. That is the only objective,” said Miller. “To do that, I am entrusted to put the best staff and team together to accomplish our goal. We will create a team first philosophy from the top down, a culture that is based on a work ethic over talent. We will put the best team together and not the best individuals. I look forward to the challenge.”

Iroquois Nationals Accepting Applications for Executive Director

The Iroquois Nationals Lacrosse Board of Directors is accepting applications to fill the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director reports directly to the Iroquois Nationals Board of Directors concerning overall strategic and operational responsibility for the staff, programs, finances, growth and the execution of the organization’s goals and mission. The term of the Executive Director is a voluntary two year position.

Denise WatermanHaudenosaunee – Iroquois Nationals Executive Director, Ms. Denise Tsadeyohdi Waterman today announce she will complete her 2 term position at the end of the year.

“Denise Waterman has been a remarkable leader for the Iroquois Nationals”, stated Vince Schiffert, Board of Directors. Denise will continue her service as a member of the Board of Directors for the Iroquois Nationals. A position she has carried as a founding member since 1983 as she continues her primary work as an Iroquois Nationals delegate and representative to the Federation of International Lacrosse, FIL.

As Executive Director, Denise has created a new era of awakening to greater organizational possibilities and accomplishments. Her leadership and devotion to the founding principles assures a common spirit and identity within the international lacrosse community, has been a benefit to all. In 2010, Denise was part of the collective force that reaffirmed the fundamental concepts of nationhood and sovereignty during the 2010 passport travel document challenge, revealed a true commitment to Haudenosaunee principles.

Recap: Iroquois Nationals Celebrate 10th Annual U19 Tourney

This year Iroquois Nationals celebrates its 10th Annual Haudenosaunee Nations Cup Junior Field Lacrosse Tournament held this past year in Buffalo, New York. The field lacrosse tournament provides a show case for Native American high school and junior college lacrosse players.

Highlighting his year’s athletes is an opportunity to advance players into the collegiate environment at the Division I. II, and III institutions. The tournament has long held the importance of dialogue and the disseminate information for the NCAA Clearing House, SAT, and ACT requirements for college athletes. The number of collegiate coaches and lacrosse media coverage was once again substantial this year for the tournament.

The Haudenosaunee Nations Cup (HNC) U19 Field Lacrosse tournament produced another great lacrosse final as the Red Rebels from Six Nations are crowned the 2014 HNC champions.
